With the World Cup now in full swing, why not treat yourself to a selection of football themed cakes and bakes to help you celebrate? We’ve rounded up our favourite cakes, cookies and bread, each with a football theme to feed your guests at a World Cup Party, or while you’re watching the match.
If you’re throwing a party to celebrate the World Cup final, this show-stopping cake from BBC Good Food is an absolute winner! Why not try with one of the cakes available on our Bake Shop? Fill the centre with chocolate footballs to surprise your guests when you cut in to it, and then decorate with your team colours to show everyone who you support. Your guests will be chanting your name once they see this fantastic cake!
Cupcakes make a great base for some football-based decoration. This how-to guide by Good to Know gives you step-by-step instructions on how to create football toppers out of fondant. These little footballs can then decorate the top of your favourite cupcake recipe. Try it with our perfect Gin & Tonic cupcakes for a real celebration! You can even make these in advance and pop them on once your cupcakes are cool.
Football fans and cookie fans alike will love these football cookies, designed by The Decorated Cookie. Though they may look tricky to decorate at first, the recipe includes a foolproof way to pipe the hexagonal white and pentagonal black parts of a football. Once you’ve got the knack, you’ll be knocking these out like a star striker!
What’s more appetising than a cake that looks like a football pitch? Well… quite a lot actually, but this cake is still pretty impressive and surprisingly easy to make too! Just add a few drops of green food colouring to buttercream and spread evenly over a rectangular cake to make the grass. Then, pipe the white lines on with uncoloured buttercream, and you’ve got a football pitch just ready to eat! Follow the instructions over on the Soccer Mom Blog to see how it’s done.
Cake pops are a huge trend at the moment, and what better opportunity than to try a new decoration than for a World Cup Party? Heavenly Cake Pops has got the perfect recipe for the occasion. You’ll need a steady hand to create the lines, but once they’re done, you’ll be so pleased with the outcome!
For something a little more savoury, how about baking some football bread rolls? Fill them with burgers or sandwich fillings and you’ve got the perfect start to your party. This recipe by Artisan Bread and More recommends buying a football stamp to recreate the hexagonal patterns, but it’s easy enough to score using a knife or a skewer to get the same effect.
If you want a cake that really looks like a football, try this fantastic recipe by Lakeland. You may need to get new cake tins to get the sponge rounded, but you could also try and carve it out of a four tier cake too. The fondant black and white icing is so realistic, you’ll hardly be able to tell the finished product is a cake! Just make sure your guests know that so they don’t try to kick it around the garden!
