On 7th July, chocoholics across the UK will be celebrating their favourite day of the year - National Chocolate Day! Of course you could just chow down on a bar of chocolate, but for those who prefer to bake simple chocolate recipes at home, you’ve come to the right place. Here are our favourite chocolate recipes that will please everybody - from those who love baking with chocolate, to the chocolate bar addicts too!
But firstly… we can’t talk about chocolate without answering the age-old debate.
Whether chocolate is ‘good for you’ is an internal debate, we have with ourselves every time we crack open a chocolate bar. But now, thanks to research by the Telegraph, we finally have the answer we’ve longed for!
The health benefits of good quality dark chocolate (over 70% cocoa solids) include restoring the flexibility of arteries, reducing cholesterol and lowering the risk of stroke! Chocolate is also packed with minerals and general feel-good chemicals, so it seems that yes - chocolate is good for both your body and your soul! As long as you have it in moderation, of course.
Now you can bake with chocolate (almost) guilt-free!
These chocolate recipes are easy and quick to make, and will soon have you tucking into delicious chocolatey treats in no time - especially if you use one of our baking kits! Our kits also come with all the dry ingredients you need exactly weighed out, plus a step-by-step recipe card and some handy extras such as baking tins and testing skewers too.
No list of our favourite chocolate recipes would be complete without mention of the humble chocolate brownie. Nothing beats a rich, gooey, chocolatey brownie still slightly warm from the oven. Our top tip for the perfect brownie is to take them out of the oven a few minutes earlier than you would normally. They should still have a slight wobble in the centre as they will firm up while cooling, leaving an irresistible fudgy centre. Then, top them with a delicious caramel sauce and marshmallows for an extra treat.
Bakedin was born out of a love of brownies, and we’re proud that our Double Chocolate Brownie recipe won the Great Taste Award in 2014. You can pick up our award-winning chocolate brownie baking kit in the Bake Shop now!
Now that a certain famous tennis tournament has now started, why not chop up a brownie and stick in a bowl with strawberries and cream for a twist on the traditional Wimbledon treat?
Chocolate Layered Cakes, or layered cakes of any variety, have surged in popularity recently. We love adding multiple tiers to our favourite cake recipes - after all, the higher the cake, the closer to heaven, right? And it’s completely up to you what flavour you decide to make your layers, and how you want to decorate them.
Ombre cakes are another huge baking trend. Characterised by multiple layers of sponge, each with a different colour and flavour, ombre cakes will delight your guests when they cut into it. Our very own Chocolate Layer Cake is the best simple chocolate cake we do. Using the baking kit, you just need to mix up each sponge layer with eggs and butter before baking in the oven and assembling on the cake board. It’s completely up to you how you decorate it, but we like using a chocolate buttercream on the outside to fool our friends into thinking it’s a standard chocolate cake!
If the summer has you replacing baking cakes with baking yourself in the sun, a chocolate mug brownie might be just what you’re looking for. There’s no slaving away in front of a hot stove with these chocolatey treats! They’re so simple to make - just mix melted butter, cocoa powder, sugar, flour and a little milk in a mug and bake in the microwave for just 60 seconds.
Learn how to make a chocolate sponge cake or brownie in the microwave by picking up one of our famous chocolate mug brownie mixes in the Bake Shop, with the exact ingredients pre-measured in a handy sachet. Have you tried our brand new flavour, Chocolate Hazelnut too?
Mmm cookies… Though we’re probably all sick of the word cookie following GDPR, we will ALWAYS accept chocolate cookies in our lives. We love the gooey, chewy centre, and they make the perfect portion size for an afternoon snack or morning treat.
Chocolate cookies are good. But two chocolate cookies, sandwiched together with melted chocolate and marshmallows are even better. Our Chocolate Mallow Melts kit is one of our best chocolate recipes for kids, as they’re just as fun to make as they are to eat. Why not give this one a go with your kids for National Chocolate Day?
Our Bake Shop is full of chocolate-based baking kits. Take a look now for everything from mug bakes to cakes, and from cookies to brownies. They’re all delicious!
