It seems way too soon to be saying this, but the Great British Bake Off is over for another year :( :( :( But what a final it was! The bakers all did a fantastic job, but we couldn’t help but miss the themes of other weeks. Unless, of course, the theme was simply ‘Everything Else We Can Think Of To Get Them To Bake’. The three challenges were just that - challenging - but don’t worry - we’ve got some great alternative recipes that will have you vying for that coveted Star Baker crown next year!

First up, the bakers had to tackle two batches of intricately decorated doughnuts - both filled and iced ring doughnuts.
Similar to our Baked Churros Recipe, this Baked Doughnut recipe by Gemma at Bigger Bolder Baking doesn’t involve faffing around with a deep fat-fryer. Plus, they’re much healthier (okay… who are we kidding?!) than traditionally fried doughnuts, but just as tasty. They look just like traditional ring doughnuts, but are flavoured with cinnamon to make them more churro-like. Gemma even shows you how to make your very own DIY doughnut pan out of a muffin tray and a few pieces of tin foil. Genius!
Don’t have a muffin tin? Don’t worry - we’ve got you covered. Head over to our Bake Shop for a top-quality muffin tin today!

The Technical challenge was another Bake Off first - al fresco baking over a campfire! The bakers were asked to create pitta breads and a series of dips, but it seems like everyone was a bit flummoxed by it all! If you want to know how to make pitta breads in the oven, check out this recipe by Tales from the Kitchen Shed. They’re very easy to make, and also so much tastier than the ones you can buy from the supermarket! Why not give them a go today?
It will come as no surprise that when you search for ‘landscape cakes’ in Google, nothing shows up. It’s like the biscuit chandeliers all over again! So, we had to share this recipe for an Edible Rock Garden Chocolate Cake, inspired by Rahul’s winning showstopper!
We love the delicate decoration on this cake, and the three different elements - chocolate sponge, Italian meringue buttercream and garden decoration - are enough to keep even the most talented baker busy for a while!
So that’s it! Our pick of the best recipes from the Great British Bake Off final for 2018. Did you enjoy the Bake Off final this year? We’d love to hear who you thought should win - leave us a comment to let us know!
