Everyone knows the best part of Christmas is the food. Our dinner tables are graced with festive treats from a bronzed turkey to brussel sprouts, but the star of the show is always the dessert. If you’re bored of the traditional Christmas Pudding, why not try one of our favourite 7 alternative Christmas desserts you can bake at home? We’ve rounded up a great selection of puddings that are bound to become your new favourite Christmas dessert recipes!

Inspired by everyone’s favourite festive Starbucks order, our Gingerbread Latte Cake is a show-stopping alternative Christmas dessert for your Christmas table. Imagine four layers of delicious sponge flavoured with ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg and drizzled with a coffee syrup. The sponges are sandwiched together with a coffee Swiss meringue style buttercream, and then we top it all off with more buttercream and a festive snowflake on top.
Now, we don’t know about you, but we’d much rather have one of these beauties after our turkey than a stale old Christmas pudding!

While cheesecakes are considered to be more of a summer dessert, there’s absolutely no reason you couldn’t have one on Christmas Day as an alternative to the traditional cheese board. The best thing about cheesecakes is that there are plenty of different flavours for you to choose from, and our favourite has to be this festive Clementine Cheesecake drizzled with a shiny chocolate sauce. It’s a recipe by Olive Magazine, and we can confirm it is as delicious as it sounds!
The next alternative Christmas pudding on our list is the irresistible Chocolate Caramel Yule Log. This baking kit is great for anyone that’s always wanted to try to bake their own yule log but has been too scared to try. We’ve made it as easy as can be, by weighing out all of the dry ingredients separately, so all you need to do is follow the step-by-step instructions included in the kit and you’ll soon have your very own!
What makes our yule log so special compared to any shop-bought version is that ours uses top- quality ingredients to make a light chocolate sponge, crammed full of a caramel infused cream, and then topped with a rich chocolate ganache and crunchy hazelnuts! It really is divine, and we’re not just saying that…
Baked Alaska is a fantastic combination of three of the best desserts out there - a moist sponge cake, ice cream and torched marshmallowy meringue. It sounds perfect, right? But do you know what sounds even better… a brownie baked Alaska! Sally’s Baking Addiction has come up with this incredible recipe and we think it makes an awesome alternative to Christmas pudding. What’s better than to tuck in to your very own snow-capped mountain!
Yes, it requires a bit of preparation and it’s advisable to have a blow torch to get the golden brown tinge on the edges, but the end result really is worth it. If you don’t want to make a whole one, Sally has also created a mini version of the dessert - brownie baked Alaska cupcakes! These are the perfect baked treats if you’re hosting a Christmas party or just fancy something bitesize after your Christmas dinner.
If you would rather replace your Christmas pudding with a tried-and-tested flavour that’s bound to go down well in your house, why not try our Sticky Toffee Cake Kit? The recipe for our Sticky Toffee Cake has been exclusively approved by Michel Roux OBE, so you know it’s good! It’s a rich sponge flavoured with dried dates and vanilla, drizzled with a sticky toffee sauce. You could make it in advance and then bake just in time to eat because, let’s face it… nothing quite beats a warm sticky toffee pudding served with ice cream or custard. Yum!

If you want a Christmas dessert that comes with a little bit of theatre, give these Melt in the Middle Chocolate Puddings a go! Baking Martha has come up with a really simple recipe that is hard to get wrong. Just remember - it’s slightly under-baking these little puddings that creates the famous melting middle, so don’t overcook them! Martha has also given us a few different fillings that you can experiment with until you find your favourite flavour. Try pushing a chocolate truffle into the centre of the batter before you bake, or perhaps some winter berries for something a bit more festive?
For those who would rather forego alternative Christmas desserts and prefer their Christmas dessert to be a little more traditional, why not try one of our festive flavoured mug mixes? Our Christmas Pudding mug mix makes the perfect dessert for the individual in your family who likes Christmas Pudding, but can’t finish a whole one to themselves (there’s always one!)
You can purchase our mug mix for half price now on the website at just £2! Head over to the Bake Shop to buy now.
